Do You Know When Your Site is Down?

From the uber informal and useless series of posts, a very geeky and information embedded post might be a shock for some. But anyways, this will probably catch the interest of bloggers and website owners alike since we all dedicate a fraction of our (if not our whole) time daily to maintaining our blogs and websites. Uptime is very important to a website, and in turn it is important that the server where the website resides is always to almost always accessible. Everyone who owns a website wants their website to experience minimal or no downtime because if the site always seem to be experiencing downtime, network failure, system outage or connection failure, either or both can happen:

  1. loss of revenue and/or profit
  2. loss of interest of viewers to revisit the blog or website

And we really don’t want our sites (especially business types) to be cause of great annoyance and distrust now, do we?

Adsense Publishers Can Now Encash via Western Union

Oh joy! Looks like the Western Union Quick Cash Option in Adsense is now available for Philippine AdSense Publishers.

This just means that you have the option to receive your Adsense earnings through Western Union the day after the scheduled payment is sent.

This personally means, I do not have to wait for 5 days for the check to arrive via courier and I cut down on expenses for courier! And I get to avoid the risk of having my check disappear without explanation from the post office!! (oh the agony… agony!!)

The SEO Song

I give. Back when I was SEO trainer (kuno) and team leader for that <insert whatever profanity you feel>-type of office somewhere in the inner recesses of Ortigas, I would never talk about work or anything with that theme in this blog (well maybe except rant and bitch about a sudden f_ck up from one of the trainees or a bashing from the clients. To my workmates, does doding daga ring a bell?). Anyhow this isn’t a f_ck up but it is work-related and not at all. It made me LOL. Literally.

I bet you guys have seen it

This video was made by *the* Benj Arriola. What can I say… Ang cute talaga ni kuya kahit nasa banyo lang! Hahaha  *cough* errrm… No really, it was a fun video. Sad SEO story, nakarelate ako sa sentiments! *sniff*

Geek na kung geek. Nerd na kung nerd. Natawa talaga ako. Nice job kuya, the video’s been added to my Youtube favorites.

Plug Me! Getting a Glimpse of Plugins

Uncover Wordpress PluginsEver found some feature on someone else’s blog that took your interest? But since you’re too shy to ask the owner, you just whisper to yourself, “I wish I had that on my blog”?

Or maybe that plugin or hack you’ve been wanting to use is available for you but you just don’t know how to integrate it into your template? Or can’t seem to make it work on your blog? (we’ll tackle that next)

Are you like me, the type that wants more stuffing on your blog so that it looks busy and loads slower than it should? bwahaha well then let’s do the plugin strip! Let’s review some of the Wordpress plugins available on the Internet that no one bothered asking me to scrutinize but I still bother wasting time with. Please don’t think of me as a Wordpress guru, I just enjoy tinkering with plugins is all.

And why do I do this? Because I can be geeky! Hooray! :woohoo:
Let’s start with 8 plugins that does not require you to touch anything on your template/admin pages/whatever… These are those that are “plug and play” types. For the record, I’ve tried these plugins in some of the past versions of WP and have tried them using the latest version of WP (version 2.2.1).

Sunday Menu

What’s cookin’ tonight? We seem to be quite hungry right now so why not skip the appetizer and have 2 main dishes.

Main Course #1: A Dose of Reality

I guess I’m not going to be able to do any celebrations for the next few months unless I make more money than I am earning right now (himala, where are you? walang himala! huhu). I got obligated to help pay for the SSS loans. Believe me it ain’t no funny business this loan my family had during the time my dad left his job because of stupid employers. (One of the many reasons why I had to stop studying and look for employment).

Dollars and Pesos Anyhow, I agreed that half of my income, starting next month, goes to my mom and the other half I budget for everything Fiona and I would need. I am kind of reluctant since I don’t earn as much as everyone else thinks. I can save up for trips and travels and all that bling blings, but I’m not filthy rich noh. I shouldn’t mind the sacrifice too much since it’s family and being eldest, they expect a lot from me. It just means good bye Palawan trip, good bye Subic outing, good bye Hong Kong, good bye concert at AsiaWorld, (amf ang dami kong pinag-ipunan at binalak na lakad na kailangan ko ipostpone! argh!), good bye ‘bonggacious’ anniversary  anniversary? pffft ano ung anniversary? :( drama mode
