Hostage Drama

Yesterday morning around 9 AM until yesterday night 7 PM, a bus filled with kindergarten children, supposed to head for Tagaytay for a daycare excursion, detoured and was hostaged in front of the Bonifacio shrine in Manila. The hostage taker, Jun Ducat, had two grenades without pins, an uzi and god knows what else. Guess who Jun Ducat was… the owner of the daycare center.

A couple of senatoriables took turns on-site to negotiate with Ducat. And what did he want? He want to be heard by the government. I know in this society, the government would seem and might really be deaf to the needs of the people. If he didn’t take this violent method, how else would the government know what he wants or what most people want? But in my opinion, this kind of actions should not be tolerated.

The end doesn’t justify the means.

Asking for education and housing projects for the mass are very beautiful aims and I would like to believe everyone in our nation has hopes of everyone being granted education and proper shelter. But by endangering the lives of 32 innocent children for this aim is a lot of crap.

Dealing with Sweet Cravings

I am Joiz and I’m a chocoholic. I think I’m not the only one when I say that it’s very usual that I get cravings or sweet every now and then. I’m not just pertaining to chocolates (enough amount of chocolates can be very healthy) but also cakes, pastries, candies, ice cream, and whatever sweet things we can get our hands on.

The causes of these cravings can vary widely but chief among them are hormonal imbalances especially in insulin and serotonin, unhealthy dieting, Adrenal Fatigue, various eating disorders from the Body Dysmorphic Disorder group of symptoms, and even in very rare documented cases, premenstrual syndrome (National Institute of Health).

Addiction is not regarded as a cause of cravings so anyone who got those cravings should get a doctor to pinpoint the cause of the cravings and follow steps to fully combat it.

I should get this noted since I found this somewhere and should follow it.

  1. Remove temptations. Go through your refrigerator and food pantry. Get rid of the cakes, ice cream, cookies, etc. When you go food shopping, make a conscious effort not to buy sweet items.

The Google Home Page Face Lift

Last Tuesday, Google launched the home page themes. If you have a Google account and uses the personal home page then you probably know what I’m talking about. I noticed the press release somewhere but only had time to tinker with it today and was really amazed with the oh so cute headers!

Google Face Lift
There are currently 6 themes available and Google has programmed the graphics to reflect what’s going on in the outside world and the design will also contain Easter eggs or hidden surprises that will open up with an opportune click at the right time of the day.

Google will introduce more themes every month and maybe open itself to submissions someday.

I know Yahoo has had this long before Google but I think it’s a big step for Google since they have always been associated to plain whites.

“The use of more graphics illustrates Google’s evolution from a once-pure internet search engine into an all-purpose website that offers email, news, photo sharing, instant messaging, shopping and mapping services.”

To .be or Not to .be

My apologies for the Shakesperean.

I have been contemplating whether to continue using my .be or not. Apparently, as of press time, my joiz.be is still the most popular joiz according to Google, not that I keep track or anything but for some weird reason I get clicks from that search so I notice it (must be my relatives and friends). I’m also the fifth most popular angel’s lair in google (talk about luck).

It seems joiz.be is still the domain most noticed by the search engines and it seems most people still remember joiz.be than joiz.org. I have still to get use to typing .org on the address bar whenever I visit my own site. But I’ve asked a few friends to change my domain address to the .org and if I move back to .be, I would probably have to ask them to change it back and I’d be just annoying won’t I? See my dilemma here? So what do you think? Should I continue on with .org, put the 301 redirect on .be and don’t look back, or do I move back my blog to .be… Ooooh I’d feel bad for the .org though, it was like a christmas present.

When Love and Hate Collide

Having a fight with your partner can leave you in the pits at times. You love the person and yet you hate him. Maybe the word hate is a bit too strong, we can say, annoyed, displeased, etc. But it boils down to currently not liking him.

Are fights worth it? I think some of them are worth it. It’s part of growin/nurturing a healthy relationship with, not just your significant other but with anyone. You wouldn’t know how strong a relationship is until it is tested. Although too much fighting can be unhealthy. It could come down to the point that both of you no longer have time to emotionally heal and it’s better off giving space and time to be apart from each other.

-Sigh-

I mentioned that the probability of me posting with an mp3 is low, right? But I didn’t actually close that idea so I guess this is the first time I’d be posting with an audio at hand. The quality is not so good, I don’t want mp3s eating up my server’s bandwidth.

I know it’s an old song and I love it. I’m a sucker for old love songs.
